More Art of Digital Photography

If you own a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) or other advanced camera and want to learn to become a better photographer, this One-Day Workshop is for you.

This class is an extension of Phil's popular ":The New Art of Digital Photography":, and is designed for students who are already familiar with basic photography concepts such as the relationship of shutter, aperture and ISO; the use of camera modes other than Automatic; and basic composition techniques.

Next Workshop is Saturday, April 22, 2017, from 9:00 AM until 4:30 PM.

Location: Midway United Methodist Church, 5025 Atlanta Hwy, Alpharetta (at Highway 9 and Campground Road in south Forsyth County) (follow signs to class room).
Please note: So that each person can get the attention they deserve, class size is limited to five students.
Register Early!

You should bring your camera and user's manual to each class, as well as something on which to take notes. A tripod and speedlight are recommended as they will enable you to get the most out of the classroom exercises. Also, you may submit (by email) three of your best images for for a constructive critique. Finally, if you have a laptop with an image editing program capable of RAW processing, bring it as well.

Specific topics include:

  • Review exposure, aperture, shutter speed, ISO and depth of field.
  • Advanced exposure techniques using spot metering and the ":Zone": system
  • Advantages of RAW and Why and when to shoot in RAW format, including Expose To The Right (ETTR)
  • RAW processing using Adobe Lightroom
  • Make your images pop with simple Lightroom enhancements.
  • Using speedlights and bounce flash
  • Natural and artificial lighting
